Branklyn’s Centenary Appeal
Donate todayWe’re celebrating 100 years of Branklyn Garden!
Under our care, and thanks to a dedicated team of staff and over 50 volunteers, Branklyn Garden has become somewhere that people go to relax and enjoy the beautiful surroundings, making treasured memories. However, it is also an important conservation garden, preserving rare and beautiful plants. We are determined to uphold the legacy of its founders – Mr and Mrs Renton – and lead the way into the next 100 years of gardening here in Perth.
If you can, please donate today to help the garden thrive.
Branklyn’s Centenary Appeal
Donate todayA place for conservation
When John and Dorothy Renton created the garden back in 1922, their ambition was to fill the garden with rare and exotic flowers from across the world. The Trust is proud to preserve that legacy.
Some of the plants they cultivated are now rare in the wild, such as the Himalayan blue poppy – the collection here is exceptional. Branklyn is also home to a few National Plant Collections including Cassiope and Rhododendron. In addition, a very special species of dandelion grows here: the Taraxacum pankhurstianum. It’s only found naturally on St Kilda, so its conservation is hugely important.
Many plants globally have been lost to cultivation or as a result of the loss of their native habitats. Gardens such as Branklyn act as a type of living library; these places are incredibly important to the continued conservation and survival of many species. A donation today will help us continue this work.
A place for memories
Head Gardener Jim recalls some of his favourite memories of Branklyn: ‘I call it the “Branklyn Experience”, and of course none of this would be possible without our wonderful team of staff and volunteers – from my wife Alison making delightful scones and cakes in the tearoom, to gardener Alastair and our team of volunteers in the garden, and of course the team in the shop who are always ready with a smile and a hello to visitors.
And we have all been lucky enough to watch visitors make their own memories. From children discovering newts in the pond to the friends who come to the tearoom every week for a chat, a tea and a scone.’
Every visit brings the opportunity to discover something new and create memories with our loved ones. As a charity, the Trust is only able to care for Branklyn Garden with your support. A gift today will help us celebrate 100 years of memories and ensure many more will continue to be made here.
