Letters and Documents relating to Gilbert Burns.

Gilbert Burns (1760 – 1827), was the younger brother of Robert Burns the poet, was born at Alloway. He married Jean Breckenridge in 1791, had six sons and five daughters, died in 1827, aged 66, and was buried at Bolton, East Lothian, Scotland.

The letters included in this collection include writings to Jean Armour Burns, and future wife Jean Breckenridge. Additionally there is the original version of Gilbert Burn's pocket diary, documenting his trip to Liverpool, where while in Liverpool, met with D.r Currie to discuss Robert Burns's papers (1797.) There is also a copy of his Obituary, from Dumfries Courier, some Poetry written by Gilbert and his own handwritten memoir.
