Letter from Robert Burns to Robert Cleghorn, 29 August 1790
My Dr Sir,
Give me leave to introduce the
Bearer, M.r Tennant, to your acquaintance. -
He is not only one of the most respectable farmers,
but also one of the most respectable men, both as
to his character & connections, in Ayr-Shire. -
He is on a tour of pleasure thro' the East part
of Scotland, or rather on a tour of information;
for he is a keen Farmer, & as such, I have
taken the liberty to put him under your
instruction for an afternoon when he comes
to your Country. -
I am in a hurry, a d-mned hurry; so take
this scrawl. Why don't you return me
