Letter from Robert Burns to Captain Robert Riddell, 27 September 1791
I will be writing Peter Hill next
week, when I will remember Mcnish's
book. - You know I don't like asking
favours of the gentleman - dare I trouble
you, if you meet with the Member, to
get me a Frank, "October the second, 1791
"Colonel Fullarton of Fullarton
"Fullarton-house,
"Irvine - "
__________
I am to send the Colonel some things,
besides the Whistle; & do not wish to
put him to expense. -
I enclose you the letter to the Duke
that you were pleased to think so well
of. - I also send you the first,
almost extempore, on a very amiable
Subject. - I am pleased with some of
the lines; perhaps because they
are new; but they shall see a few
chosen friends, or be entirely supprest,
as it shall be their fate to meet with
your & M.rs Riddel's applause or
disapprobation. -
I shall not be able to go to
town tomorrow. -
I have the honour to be.
Sir,
your deeply indebted humble servt.
Robt. Burns
