off Maderia 22nd June 1811.
My Dear Mother
We putting in at Maderia here I take
the pleasing opportunity of writing you merely to let you
know I am well. We have been about a Month or Six Weeks
coming from England to this and I have been very sick
but am quite well now and am extremely well pleased
with my Situation. If you must write me by the first
ship you hear of that is going to India for thou[page torn]
I shan’t be there when you send it I shall be th[page torn]
before it arrives at India. Mr Perochon will be
the most proper person to enquire about the ship.
When you write direct to me at JG Burns Military
Cadet Barasut Bengal. I give my best respects
to Mr and Mrs Perochon and I hope they are well and rem =
member me kindly to Mr and Mrs McClure and I sincerely
wish him better as also to A William Thorturn and [?]
him I would have written him before [?]
