Letter from James Glencairn Burns to Jean Burns, 1 June 1814
My dearest Mother!
Having scarcely a Moments'
time I shall be brief. I have been
admitted into College and am
now labouring very hard to at
Persian [?] & Hindustani
so that I have not a Moment to
myself. I have enjoyed [?]
and still enjoy remarkable good
health. By a Gentleman who
goes home by this Ship, I have
sent you my Miniature, he goes
by way of Edinburgh, so will
give it to Mr Gray, whom I have
requested to send it you safe
The news lately received here set
all the people here mad with
joy. I also rejoice and am thankful.
I the other day dined by
invitation with Lord M[?] and
Lady Loudon, who received me
very politely, and although her
Ladyship made no express promise
of helping me, I think it more than
likely she may be of some service
heard from Mr he being out on a
survey has no opportunity of
either receiving or writing letters.
Give my Love to all my friends
In great haste
ever your affectionate
Son
