Description

Dark wood and gilt framed photograph of six gentlemen outside Burns Cottage in 1862. The named gentlemen are Mr. Ritchie, Innkeeper, A Visitor, Mr Tennant, Blacksmith, Mr. Smillie, Monkwood, Mr Hunter, North Park and Mr. Struther, Slaphouse.

The photograph was taken outside the Cottage in 1862 showing the tiled roof annex at the left hand side which was the local inn. In the photograph is the Innkeeper Mr. Ritchie with notable local Alloway residents (named on mount).

This photograph on view in Burns Cottage Museum was one of the earliest recorded photographs of the poets birthplace.
