Description

Cream, ceramic jug with rectangular, tapered body with curved handle and squared top with inverted lip. Jug depicts scene from The Cotter's Saturday Night (front); Brig o' Doon (reverse) and Alloway Auld Kirk (side) to celebrate the Burns centenary.

The brothers John and Matthew Preston Bell operated the Glasgow Pottery in the second half of the nineteenth century, this whisky jug is an example of their work with Etruscan polychrome decoration, showing the Cotter's homecoming on one side and the Auld Brig o Doon on the other. A little Vignette of Alloway Kirk appears at the front.
