Description
A white china coffee cup, painted in blue and red with a Chinese style pheasant surrounded by flowers. With loop handle. It reportedly belonged to 'Clarinda', Agnes McLehose.
This small coffee cup is a reminder of the social difference between Robert and Agnes (the well-to-do wife of a Glasgow lawyer) and how they met at a genteel tea party in Edinburgh. A similar cup and saucer is located in collection of National Museums of Scotland.
