Description

Small wooden Mauchline ware egg cup, with transfer of Burns Monument.

Mauchline Ware is known as such because the vast majority of these small wooden items were made in the Ayrshire town of Mauchline. With annotation 'from the factory of Smith in Mauchline about 1800'.

Designed to appeal to 19th Century tourists, these items flourished in Scotland for 160 years. During that period hundreds of thousands of wood ware souvenirs were despatched to all parts of the British Isles, Europe, North and South America, South Africa, Australia and New Zealand.
