Description

This stone carving of the head of Thomas Syme was carved by James Thom the noted Ayrshire sculptor. Syme was the owner of a quarry at Belston, by Ayr, where Thom bought his stone. For many years this his sculpture on the wall of Turners Brewery in Ayr.

On demolition of the Turners Brewery, the sculpted head of Thomas Syme was brought to the Statue house in Burns Monument gardens, to join the famous Tam o' Shanter and Souter Johnie Statues housed there.
