Elizabeth Burnett (1766 - 1790) was one of Burns's many female inspirations. She was the youngest daughter of Lord Mondobbo, whom Burns visited on several occasions during his stay in Edinburgh. When Elizabeth died from consumption, Burns wrote the poem 'Elegy on the late Miss Burnet of Mondobbo'.
