Description

Tinted engraving depicting the 'Burns Monument on the banks of the Doon' engraved from the original picture now in the possession of Archibald Hastie Esqr M.P. and most respectfully dedicate, by eachpress permission, to Office Bearers and the Members of the Glasgow Ayrshire Society'. In giltwood frame.

The engraving depicts the Burns Festival of 1844 which the Poet's 3 surviving sons attended. In the picture to the right is a temporary pavilion which was created to accommodate the guests. To the right is the famous 'Brig O'Doon' which was immortalized in Burns' epic comic tale of 'Tam O' Shanter'.

The Monument was built by public subscription which cost £3247 and was opened in 1824. Underneath there is a small museum and visitors can climb halfway up the Monument and admire the view of the beautiful surrounding gardens.
