Hugh Blair FRSE (7 April 1718 – 27 December 1800) was a Scottish minister of religion, author and rhetorician, considered one of the first great theorists of written discourse. He is considered part of the Scottish Enlightenment. He and Burns were known to write to each other, with Burns in one letter thanking him for “that kindness, that patronage, that friendship” he had shown him.
