Description
Longcase eight day clock.
Metal white and black arch shaped clockface surrounded by red and pink roses on yellow background. Arch above clockface has a bird and a rose on a black background.
Front opening door to view clock mechanism with two ribbed columns to either side of door. Clock rests on square plinth with embossed square design on bracket feet. Note attached to door detailing the history of the clock.
Label reads: This longcase clock belonged to Isabella Burns Begg, youngest sister of Robert Burns. Although she lived in the East of Scotland for many years, Isabella would have heard the ticking of this clock as she spend her final years in Alloway. She is buried in the churchyard of Alloway Auld Kirk in the grave of her father William Burnes.
The clock was bequeathed to the Trust of Burns Cottage Museum by her daughters Agnes and Isabella in memory of their mother in 1887. Conserved by the Burns Society of the City of New York (founded 1870).
