A black and white etching from the painting of the interior of the birthplace of Burns by David Octavius Hill.
Label on the back 'W.M Lymburn, picture frame maker, bookseller, stationer and bookbinder, 10 Charlotte Street Ayr'
This framed engraving is from the painting of the interior of the birthplace of Burns by David Octavius Hill which shows the poets father William Burnes seated at the fire with his wife Agnes standing behind.
At the time of this picture the Cottage was in the hands of the Incorporated Shoemakers of Ayr and was being used as an ale-house. The scene shown however assumes the date to be around 1759 before the Burns family left the Cottage.
