Engraving of Rev. Dr. Hugh Blair, DD FRS Ed., on green and gold background. In a wooden frame.

Burns travelled to Edinburgh in 1786 and met the Rev.Dr. Hugh Blair (1718-1800) and was befriend by the preacher who became his patron. It is recorded that Burns thought highly of Dr. Blair.

At one time Dr. Blair was minister of Canongate Church in Edinburgh. He corresponded with the Poet and his name is recorded as being one of the subscribers to the 1787 edition of Burns' works.
