Description

These four woodblocks were by Berwick and used in the first Liverpool edition of the 'The Works of Robert Burns' in 1800 and subsequent editions.

The woodcuts depicting various aspects of nature featured in the Poet's works were used in volumes 1 2, 3 and 4. Also used for other editions pre 1819.

The blocks are described as follows:
a. Vol I Burns Family crest
b. Thistle and serpent;
c. Plough, bird and beehive;
d. Musical instruments.
