Description

Engraving of 'The house in which Burns was Born.'

This engraving of Burns Cottage in Alloway by Robert Scott is based on an original drawing by William Score and shows a traveller on horseback being served a refreshment by the landlord of the Ale-house which the Cottage had by this time become.

At the time of this picture the Cottage was in the hands of the Incorporated Shoemakers of Ayr and was being used as an ale-house. The scene pre-dates the addition of the extension to the Cottage which was introduced.
