Description

Photograph of Burns Cottage in 1897. Black and white print of a photograph of Burns' Cottage, in Alloway, taken in 1897, when it was still a pub. In wooden frame. Print produced in 1980.

This photograph shows Burns Cottage as it stood in 1897 with the annex on the left which was added in 1803 by the Incorporation of Shoemakers of Ayr. This annex was removed by the Burns Monument Trustees in 1900 when the Cottage was restored to its original state.

At the same time as restoring the Cottage, the Trustees built a new Museum building adjacent to the Cottage, to house the Trust's growing collection of Burns relics and provide accommodation for the Curator of the Cottage and Museum.
