Original note in the hand of General Giuseppe Garibaldi, Burns’s son, James Glencairn, gifted a portrait of his father to Garibaldi. In this thank-you note, the general talks of his esteem for Burns and his love for Scotland. Garibaldi received support from Scotland during his campaign for the unification of Italy.
Giuseppe Garibaldi (1807–82) is credited with leading the unification of Italy, and during his campaign he received support from Scotland. Burns’s son, James Glencairn Burns, gifted a portrait of his father to Garibaldi. In this thank-you note, the General talks of his esteem for Burns and his love for Scotland.
