Description

Ebonised woodcut block used for 'The Works of Robert Burns,' Liverpool Edition. This rectangular block features the plough, bird and beehive.

The four were by Bewick and used in the first Liverpool edition of the 'The Works of Robert Burns' in 1800 and subsequent editions. The woodcuts depicting various aspects of nature featured in the Poet's works were used in volumes 2, 3 and 4.
