Black and white engraving of 'The Jolly Beggars'. S. Warren after Sir William Allan, 1823. Engraving depicts the beggars sitting at a table surrounded by a large crowd of people beside a fire in a cottage.
The characters in this work originally known as 'Love and Liberty,' depicts a group of vagabonds who roamed the countryside thieving and pilfering. A work considered often difficult to perform, in recent times been set to music by Cedric Thorpe Davie and performed throughout Scotland.
