Label reads 'Formerly belonging to Burns's Mother seldom if ever used, according to John Murdoch.
Although it was common in Burns’s time for parents to beat their children, Robert’s tutor John Murdoch claimed that this tawse was ‘seldom if ever used’ by Agnes.
