Primary sessions at Culloden
We offer a wide range of sessions for primary schools. A half-day visit includes one session; a full-day visit includes two sessions. All visits include a battlefield tour.
Property-based sessions
A Soldier’s Life
Discover what life was like for a Jacobite or Government soldier. Through this interactive storytelling session, pupils will explore the battlefield, the history of the site and what life was like in the army.

People of the Battle
This session explores life in 18th-century Britain, and the difficult decisions that people were
faced with. Pupils will think critically about the Jacobite Risings and the impact they had on the people involved.

Loyalty or Treason
Pupils will discover how we can use objects to understand life in the 18th century as well as find out more about the Jacobite Risings through hands-on activities and teamwork.

Teacher-led visit
Your class can enjoy a visit to Culloden led by you. We’ll provide resources beforehand to help you prepare for the day. Explore the visitor centre and 360-degree battle immersion theatre, before viewing our roof garden and walking along the lines of the battle. This is a cross-curricular learning experience you can adapt to suit your own class .

Embark on a ‘foraging and finding’ expedition to investigate the different types of trees that grow in our woodland. Discover more about how important trees and woodlands are to our lives.

Bugs, Wings & Beasts with Stings
Investigate why bugs are so important and what they do for our planet, then go on a ‘bug hunt’ to discover what types of bugs live at Culloden. Build a bug hotel to take back to class.

Online session
Museum Curators
Join us in an interactive online session to hear Jacobite stories associated with some of the objects in our collection. Pupils will think critically about the objects, discover who might have used them and learn how they are cared for.
