Presentation copy, with inscription To Elizabeth Burns - her Father's gift - The Author. This Elizabeth was the sonsie, smirking, dear-bought Bess of Burns' poem The Inventory.
This is the second edition of the Poets works, the first being printed in Kilmarnock in 1786. There were two impressions of this Edinburgh edition totaling 3000 copies costing five shillings to subscribers and six shillings to non subscribers. It was sold by his publisher William Creech.
