Description

A black and white photograph of the Burns Cottage showing the Hall extension, circa 1890.

Accompanied underneath by label saying 'Purchased from the Incorporation of Shoemakers of Ayr / for the sum of 400£ September 1880.

The Cottage had been an "ale house" for a century. The additions were removed during the next forty years'. In wooden frame.

The photograph of the Cottage taken during the 1890`s shows the extensions at the left hand side of the building which includes the inn, the function hall and the landlord's accommodation.

The extension at the side of the Cottage was in place for most of the 19th Century until it was demolished in 1898, bringing it back to its original size and adding the new museum.
