Description

Snuff-box which belonged to James Glencairn Burns. Brown with black speckles. With wooden hinged lid.

The small snuff is made of wood with a speckled brown covering. It belonged to James Glencairn Burns (1794-1865) the third surviving son of the Poet. He spent many years in India in the East India Company's service and rose to become a Lt. Colonel. He died in Cheltenham and is buried Dumfries. Reportedly presented to him by Miss Haugh.
