Description

Small wooden Mauchline ware egg cup, with a depiction of Alloway Auld Kirk.

Mauchline Ware is known as such because the vast majority of these small wooden items were made in the Ayrshire town of Mauchline.

Designed to appeal to 19th Century tourists, these items flourished in Scotland for 160 years. During that period hundreds of thousands of wood ware souvenirs were despatched to all parts of the British Isles, Europe, North and South America, South Africa, Australia and New Zealand.
