Description
Wooden walking cane, or 'Wangee Rod', belonging to Robert Burns. Metal cap, inscribed 'R. Burns, Poet'. Metal cap on tapered pointed end.
The 'Wangee Rod' which reportedly belonged to Burns is a form of walking stick. He mentioned a walking stick in a letter he wrote in November 1790 from Ellisland Farm, Dumfries to his friend Mrs. Dunlop. It reads '...I seized my gilt headed Wangee Rod, an instrument indispensably necessary, in my left hand..'
