Scenic mountains and ridges, and the best collection of rare mountain plants in Britain
Ben Lawers is the 10th highest Munro (mountain over 3,000ft/914m) at 1,214m (3,984ft).
Ben Lawers has the most celebrated collection of rare arctic-alpine plants in Britain, as well as over 600 different types of lichen.
Look out for wildlife including red deer, ptarmigan, ravens, ring ouzels, skylarks and black grouse.

The highest mountain in the central highlands, Ben Lawers gives its name to the wider National Nature Reserve owned and managed by the National Trust for Scotland. Encompassing almost 4,500ha of the southern and/or eastern slopes of the Ben Lawers and Tarmachan ranges, it’s managed for conservation and public access.
As well as celebrity status for its rich arctic-alpine flora, Ben Lawers NNR boasts seven Munros – the namesake mountain is the central high point of its massif; Meall nan Tarmachan is the pinnacle of the ridge taking its name. Overlooking Loch Tay, these mighty mountains offer spectacular views.
But you don’t have to head for the summits to enjoy the scenic landscape – there are lower level options too. The picturesque Edramucky Trail can be enjoyed as a gentle walk and is great for families to explore all things natural. Ben Lawers is teeming with wildlife – from tiny insects to Scotland’s largest mammal, the red deer.
The hills are also rich in archaeological remains and part of the story of past inhabitants is revealed on the Kiltyrie Hidden History Trail.
