Designed by Glasgow architect John Keppie and his then apprentice Charles Rennie Mackintosh, the gallery was commissioned by Hornel in 1910 to showcase and sell his paintings. After a near-disastrous fire in 1992, the gallery underwent 10 years of extensive conservation work to restore it to its original glory. Featuring high ceilings and a replica Parthenon frieze, the gallery displays Hornel’s paintings and busts collection.
