Located high up on 3 Cathedral Street is a small metal plaque with a sun symbol and a number below it. In the days before a national fire service, people took out fire insurance for their houses. They could then call on the fire brigade, who would check that they had fire insurance by looking for the insurance plaque on the wall of the house. If not, then perhaps they let the house burn down!

The Sun Insurance Company was one of the firms offering fire insurance.
