Top tips to help you make the most of your visit and keep Glenfinnan special
- Come by train or bus for the most relaxing way to experience Glenfinnan.
There isn’t unlimited parking here, which means car parks may be full when you arrive. Please only leave your car in the visitor car parks – parking on the roadside, on double yellow lines or in passing spaces is illegal and cause accidents. Parking near the railway station or at hotels is for passengers or guests only. - The only public toilets in Glenfinnan are at the National Trust for Scotland visitor centre. After they close for the day, the nearest public toilets are at Arisaig (19 miles west) or Corpach (13 miles east) – please plan ahead to avoid getting caught out.
- There are large public bins in the two visitor car parks – if they are full, please take your rubbish away with you and find another bin.
- The nearest food stores or supermarkets are in Corpach/Fort William (17 miles) and Arisaig/Mallaig (26 miles).
- Please stay on the paths to avoid damaging our natural beauty and habitats, as well as getting muddy feet.
- Arrive in plenty of time if you plan to see the Jacobite ‘Hogwarts Express’ steam train.
The steam train runs from April to October (dates vary each year). Times vary by day and are shown in the National Trust for Scotland Visitor Centre.
The train crosses the Viaduct on its way to and from Mallaig, so you have two chances to see each journey.
Visit us in winter and you will still see a train crossing the Viaduct several times a day – there may be no steam, but we still love our little Scotrail service!
Check our Viaduct Highlight for some tips on good viewpoints.
Please note that under-18s must be accompanied by an adult if climbing the monument.
