For the best wildlife experience, head into Glen Rosa. Here, you are likely to see golden eagles hunting along the skyline, golden-ringed dragonflies darting along the burns, and, if you’re lucky, adders basking in sunny spots.

In springtime, the glen resounds with the cuckoo’s call. Their favourite food, the hairy drinker moth caterpillar, can be seen on grass stems close to the path. Look out for the small but vibrant green hairstreak butterfly and, higher on the moors, the impressive day-flying emperor moth.

Beyond our habitat restoration area are several herds of red deer, the UK’s largest deer. Listen for the stags roaring during the rut in September and October.
