Explore the Linn of Dee, a favourite picnic spot of Queen Victoria. Visit the gorge and watch the River Dee squeeze through the gap in the rocks before continuing on its way to Aberdeen.

Enjoy a family adventure by walking our waymarked trails along the River Dee, through the regenerating Caledonian pinewood and into Glen Lui for views towards the Cairngorms.

There’s a permanent orienteering course at the Linn of Dee where you can explore some stunning scenery whilst practising navigation skills. Try the shorter 1.5km course or challenge yourself with the longer 5km course. Information on orienteering and maps of the Linn of Dee course can be found here.

The car park is an excellent place from where to access the mountains. Parking is free for National Trust for Scotland/National Trust members. Non-member parking charges are as follows:

  • Cars/motorbikes: £4 per day
  • Motorhomes: £5 per day (maximum two-day stay)
  • Minibuses/coaches: £10 per day
There are toilets available in the car park from Easter until October. There is also a small information hut, which our ranger team aims to staff every weekend between Easter and October, and every day during school holidays that fall between those two dates.
