Tea time at Branklyn Garden

Two glass plate stands are piled high with scones, and stand on a patio table with a beautiful garden in the background. Behind the scones are three jars of jam: two blackcurrant and one raspberry.

Branklyn Garden has always been popular and is often cited as the Trust’s ‘jewel in the crown’, but until recently had never had its own tearoom.

After its introduction last year, the new tearoom at Branklyn continues to prosper and provides the perfect setting for visitors to enjoy home baking and refreshments while overlooking the colourful garden.

Freshly made scones – plain, fruit and cheese – together with the property’s already famous strawberry sponge, partnered with fine coffees and teas, have proved popular with visitors to the garden.

Slices of a Victoria sponge cake, filled with cream and sliced strawberries, are displayed on a silver plate, on top of a tartan tablecloth. Three whole strawberries rest against the edge.

Following last year’s success, we took the opportunity to refurbish the tearoom. Staff and volunteers can now offer a more streamlined service, backed by fresh baking made by confectioner Alison Jermyn – multi-tasking in her role of Visitor Services Manager!

There’s a warm welcome at Branklyn tearoom

The Branklyn management team is keen to support local suppliers wherever possible, including makers of locally made jam (Heather Hills), coffee beans (the Bean Shop) and Tayside Strawberries.

The terrace adjacent to the Arts and Crafts house lends itself perfectly for an extension to the tearoom, allowing visitors to enjoy the unique ambience and views across the garden throughout the season.

Metal tables and chairs are arranged on a terrace overlooking a beautiful lawn, surrounded by lush shrubs and colourful flower beds.
