Emotive artwork at Inverewe’s new exhibition
INSCENDENCE features artwork created by Morag Archer, Jill Holmes, Sadie Paige, Stefano Puzzoli and Iain Sutherland as part of the Arts at Inverewe programme, developed to support the sharing of culture and arts within the local community surrounding Inverewe, and in the wider Scottish Highlands.
This new exhibition takes place from Saturday 24 August to Monday 30 September 2024 and focuses on each artist’s unique style, encouraging visitors to look deeper to find the beauty within each piece. It will include artwork created from a variety of media, including Scottish flora, wood, collage, tapestries, pottery, photography and pewter.
INSCENDENCE will be a multi-sensory experience, incorporating narrative poetry by Inverewe’s poet-in-residence, Clare O’Brien. Her interpretive poetry – inspired by artwork, the natural world, and creatures real and imagined – will enrich visitors’ understanding of the exhibition.
The different artistic styles demonstrate each artist’s unique interpretation of ‘inscendence’ and the beauty found within unconventional artistic techniques. Arts at Inverewe programme curator, Ginevra House, says, ‘One of the many things that excites me about bringing these wonderful creators together is that our exhibition will feature no paintings! Instead, through tapestry, wood, collage, photography and pewter, we are allowed a glimpse of each artist’s journey deep into their subject. Original poetry, written in response to the artists, completes the exhibition.’
Martin Hughes, National Trust for Scotland Operations Manager at Inverewe, said: ‘We’re proud to be hosting the new INSCENDENCE exhibition at Inverewe Garden to showcase the incredible works of our featured artists as well as the insightful poetry by our poet-in-residence, Clare O’Brien. We hope that visitors to Inverewe Garden will enjoy the artwork on display and resonate with the beauty found within each artistic medium.’
Events at Inverewe Garden, like the INSCENDENCE art exhibition, support the National Trust for Scotland’s vision to care for, share and protect Scotland’s natural and cultural heritage, as outlined in our strategy launched in 2022, and contributes to our engagement objectives to provide access and enjoyment for everyone.
The exhibition is open to all visitors, with entry included in the Inverewe Garden admission price. Admission is free for National Trust for Scotland members and residents of the Wester Loch Ewe council area, with proof of address.
